摘  要:本文以某地方本科高校2011级1037名新生为研究对象,从词汇质和量两个维度,对我国当前非英语专业大学新生入学词汇水平及其发展现状进行了调查与分析,并提出了教学建议。结果显示:新生的接受性词汇与产出性词汇水平发展不平衡,其接受性词汇量增长较大,平均基本达到《新课程标准》提出的大学入学要求,词汇分布及其识别度为在1000-2000词频等级上高,3000-4000词频等级上偏低,5000-8000词频等级上低;但其产出性词汇水平发展严重后置,仍处在较低水平,词分布主要集中在1000高频词等级上。本结果还显示无论在接受性还是产出性词汇水平上,文、理科及男、女生之间存在显著差异,而来自农村与城市的学生之间不存在显著差异。The primary purpose of this study is to investigate English vocabulary proficiency of college freshmen from both receptive and productive levels. 1037 students from an ordinary university have participated in the study. The results indicate that freshers' receptive vocabulary size is evidently improved which is almost high enough to reach the college-entrance profi- ciency level required by the new English teaching curriculum of high middle schools and which covers most words of the first two 1000 high-frequency levels, not enough words at the 3000 and 4000 levels and a small number at 5000-8000 levels. But their productive proficiency remains low, which is much lower than that of their receptive vocabulary and mainly consists of the first 1000 highfrequency words. There is a significant difference in vocabulary proficiency between art and science students and between female and male students. But there is no significant difference between students from the country and cities. Pedagogical implications of the study have also been discussed on its findings.
