摘 要:孟子"好辩",不过,关于孟子在阐说立论、与告子激辩仁义时是否讲求逻辑,历来众说纷纭。在西方汉学界,自19世纪上半叶以来,雷慕沙、理雅各、瑞恰慈、韦利、范立汉、刘殿爵、葛瑞汉、倪德卫、陈汉生、朱利安、伊若泊等汉学家都围绕此一话题有所论列。他们或者诉诸"汉语诗性",或者借助西方逻辑,或者同时倚重逻辑分析与历史考察,在不同程度上推进了对于孟子思维特征的认识。考察西方学者如何从自身理论视角出发探析孟子的思维、论辩方法,并辨析其工拙得失,可以从一个特别的角度揭示《孟子》文本的复杂性,丰富我们对于《孟子》、对于西学的认识,也能促进我们自身的理论反思和方法自觉。It is still debater, or illogical a problem whether Mencian Arguments are logical or not, and Whether Mencius is a successful sophist. From the early 19th Century, Abel Remusat, I. A. Richards, Arthur Wiley, D. C. Lau, Angus Graham, David Nivison, Chad Hansen, Francois Jullien, Robert Eno, and other Western sinologists gave their own opinions on this topic. They either resort to the poetic feature of Chinese language, or appeal to Western logic, or both rely on logic analysis and historical investigation, and all of these efforts have deepen the studies on characteristics of Mencian thinking to varying degrees. This paper examines how they explored this topic from their own theoretical visions, and analyzes their insights and blindness. By this doing, Chinese scholars could enrich the understandings of both the Mencius and the West, so as to strengthen the international academic dialogue between Chinese and Western scholars, and promote the philosophical and methodological reflection in the field of Chinese philosophy research.
