[营养学报,2014,36(1):17-21]Objective To investigate the etiological factors which led to metabolic syndrome (MS) in the urban residents of Zhejiang Province based on dietary survey. Methods A frequency-matched design of case-control study was used, in which 390 cases of MS and 393 controls were randomly selected from four cities of Zhejiang Province. Dietary nutrients intake was estimated using 3 d 24 h dietary recall method. Twenty nutrients were calculated according to the food composition table and their adjusted odd ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (C/) were estimated by gender using unconditional logistic regression models. Results Increased risks of MSwere related with Na intake, and vitamin C was inversely related with the risk of MS among males. Among females, fat, carbohydrates, cholesterol were significant risk nutrients. An inversed relation with the risk of MS was seen for protein, vitamin A, riboflavin, Ca, P, K. Conclusion There are differences in the etiology of MS between males and females. High intakes of energy, fat, carbohydrates, cholesterol, sodium and low intakes of protein, antioxidant vitamins, fiber, P, K, Ca. were related with the risk of MS.
