翻译定义探讨——从《道德经》英译谈起

摘　　要：翻译的定义学界仍有争论,解决理论问题需从实践研究出发。《道德经》是被译为外国文字发行量最多的中华文化典籍,从传播汉语文化角度,其英译活动大致可分为三个阶段,即归化、异化、开放式策略阶段。采用开放式策略,运用多种媒介来翻译,促进了国际汉语教学,弥补了缺失的汉语文化,提高了汉语文化传播的有效度。故此,翻译是译者把一种语言文字所蕴含的信息用其他媒介(另一种语言为主要形式)表达出来的文化活动。There remains contention on the definition of translation, which should get answer from its practice. It is Dao De Jing that has been translated into many more foreign languages than other Chinese classics. From the perspective of spreading Chinese culture, its translating into English may be divided into three stages, namely domestication, foreignizaion, and opened tactics. The last one is that its translation may be done through more mediums, which will improve international Chinese teaching and learning, make up Chinese culture missed in its English versions and enhance spreading Chinese culture. In conclusion, translation is a culture activity, in which translators express the information contained in one language through other mediums of which another language is the main form.
