摘　　要：随着社会对现代远程教育需求的不断变化,远程教育必须与时俱进。《大学英语》是西南大学开设面最广、最重视的公共基础必修课之一,但也是学生们认同度最低的课程之一。绝大部分现有的远程教育理论不仅缺乏理论体系和深度,更缺乏对远程教育实践发展第一手资料的把握和适当的评价,关于远程大学英语学习者特征方面的的研究寥寥无几。为了寻找一种适合海宁本地学员的远程大学英语教学模式,有必要对他们的学习特征进行调查,从而提出相应的对策。Distance education must respond constantly to the changes of social demands on modern distance education.College English is one of the most far reaching and highly valued public compulsories at Southwest University.However,it is one of the courses with lowest iden-tification.The majority of the current distance education theories are short of not only theoretical width and depth but also the mastery of the first hand materials and proper evaluation of the practical development of distance education.As a result,little study has been carried out on the characteristics of distance learners.Therefore,it’s quite necessary to carry out such an investigation on the characteristics of College English learners at Haining Learning Center under OCEC,Southwest University in order to develop a teaching pattern of distance education which suits local Haining learners as well as to put forward corresponding strategies.
