理雅各英译孟子“性善”之辨

摘　　要：理雅各(James Legge,1815-1897)对孟子性善论的译、注、评涉及经学诠释学、比较哲学和比较宗教学的知识。本文在文本细读的基础上,结合理雅各的翻译思想、身份和宗教背景,分析他对孟子性善论多维度、多层面的阐释,包括他于《孟子》几个篇章中对"性善"的翻译和注释,以及绪论和其他著述中对孟子性善论的跨文化、跨文本解读。James Legge’s translation,annotation and commentary of Mencius’ doctrine of human nature involve the knowledge of hermeneutics,comparative philosophy and comparative religion. With a close reading of Mencius and Legge’s discourse on translation,and in view of Legge’s identity and religious background,this paper analyzes Legge’s multi-dimensional interpretation of Mencius’ arguments for the ＂goodness of human nature＂,which covers Legge’s translation and annotation of some relevant texts in Mencius,and his intercultural and intertextual interpretation in his prolegomena and other works.
