摘　　要：专门用途英语(ESP)教学日益成为大学英语教学改革的方向,ESP教师队伍是影响教学质量的关键。然而,ESP课程是由专业教师还是英语教师承担,一直是ESP教学的难点问题之一。通过分析专门用途英语的性质以及教师的职业发展两个方面,认为英语教师比专业教师更适合承担ESP的教学任务。English for Specific Purpose （ESP） has become one of the directions of college English teaching reformation in China,and ESP teacher is the key to ESP teaching. However, it has been a hot issue whether specialized teacher or English teacher should take the teaching task. The issue is analyzed from two aspects, the nature of ESP and teachers＇ professional development, and suggests that compared with specialized teacher, English teacher is more suitable to be ESP teacher.
