摘　　要：外语教学中,除了关注外语学习和习得,外语磨蚀也一直是关注的问题,中国非英语专业大学生外语阅读能力磨蚀情况是本文关注的重点。通过抽样调查,收集了部分高校非英语专业大学生在正式英语课堂教学结束后,其阅读理解能力的磨蚀情况,统计分析发现,被试在停止正式的英语学习后,其阅读能力在总体上发生明显磨蚀,同时,磨蚀前外语水平以及与受蚀语的接触程度对阅读能力磨蚀的影响显著。对这个调查结果的成因分析,说明我国当前的外语教学面临严重的挑战,因此,如何有效地进行外语阅读教学以及如何保持外语阅读能力、防止外语阅读能力磨蚀发生是外语教学中不能忽略的问题。Language attrition has long been a concern in foreign language teaching and learning or acquisition. Discussion on the attrition of reading competence for non-English majors is the focus of this article. Through questionnaire and sample testing, the authors analyze the attrition of English reading competence of non-English majors in China. The analysis of the data of 72 （out of 100） college students majoring science and engineering reveals that： a） The attrition of overall English reading competence of non-English learners is obviously seen within one year after stopping formal English teaching and learning; b） Language proficiency and language contact have significant influence on the attrition degree of reading competence. Therefore, the issue of how to effectively teach or train reading skill and how to maintain the skill or competence to prevent the attrition for learners cannot be ignored.
