The author portrays his character images in his novel; the poet accumulates poetic images in his poem. While in painting, the painter depicts images of objects, scenery, people etc. "Images" are the core as well as the origin of all artistic forms, for they represent what the world in which people live looks like. People manage to comprehend the world mainly through these "images", which do not exist in monotonous ways. On the contrary, they exist in people's concept in the form of concrete images, abstract images, and mimetic images, which further make them exist in art too.
