摘　　要：我国外交官方用语"伤害(了)中国人民的(民族)感情"及其英文翻译在过去的几年在国外引起不少误解和讨论。本文在查询我国权威报刊《人民日报》数据库(1946—2012)的基础上,考察了这一用语的语源问题,认为这一用语实为一个外来用语。同时,通过对hurt the feelings这一英文用语的语用分析,本文对这一用语的英译引起误解的原因进行分析,并对其翻译提出了建议。Abstract ： ＂Hurt the feelings of the Chinese people,＂ a translated phrase frequently used in Chinese diplomatic discourse, has met with much misunderstanding and even derision in the past years. By examining the archives of People＇s Daily （1946- 2012）, the official organ of the Communist Party of China, this study is able to show that the verb-object collocation is a loan translation, rather than a neologism in the Chinese language. An analysis of the pragmatics of the same construction in Anglo- American context shows that the Chinese diplomatic rhetoric involves complicated nationalistic mentality and cultural factors, creating a difficult dilemma for translators and Western audience. Suggestions are made as to how to （un）translate the phrase into English.
