摘　　要：英华书院是马礼逊和米怜按首先在海外以华人为对象开办的一所新式学校。作为一所教会学校,它是一种游离于传统教育体制之外的新式教育,但其在学生和教师的选聘、课程设置与考察方式、教学模式与教学组织形式等方面都具有先进理念,成为近代英语教学活动的圭臬。它为我国培养了一大批会讲英语的人才,对我国近代的英语教学起到了催化作用,是我国英语教学的先声,但也有强制灌输基督教教义、损害国家尊严和形象的局限性和消极影响。Anglo-Chinese College is a novel school run by Morrison and Mickey for overseas Chinese. It is a church school which adopts a brand-new education mechanism free from traditional educational system. However, it is advanced in the concepts regarding the selection of students and teachers, the curriculum set- ting-up and observation, the teaching modes and teaching organization forms, thereby becoming the standard-bearer of English education. As a forerunner of English teaching in China, it has turned out a large number of English-speaking talents for our country, thus playing a catalytic role in modern English teaching in our country. On the other hand, its restrictions and negative effects cannot be ignored, for it has the pow- er to instill Christian doctrine in people, accordingly damaging the dignity and image of China.
