摘  要:新时期,党的"十七大"报告强调加强公民意识教育,树立社会主义民主法治、自由平等、公平正义理念,而公民意识不会自发形成,而是有赖于系统的公民教育,亟待我们研究、总结一个半世纪以来中国的公民教育思想和实践。晏阳初的公民教育思想,不仅在20世纪20、30年代的中国获得了成功的验证,而且指导了许多亚非拉国家的社会改造事业,对于提高这些国家民众的素质和催生现代民主产生了深刻的影响。因此,认识与分析晏阳初的公民教育思想的形成与发展,在我国加强公民意识教育和民主政治观念的培养的今天,无疑具有重要的理论意义和实践意义。In new era, the report of Party's 17th Congress emphasizes that we need to step up education about citizenship and establish socialist concepts of democracy, the rule of law, freedom, equality, equity and justice. Citizen consciousness could not generate autonomously but relies on systematic citizen education, therefore, we should study and sum up Chinese citizen educational theory and practice over the past one - century and a half. Y.C. James Yan's citizen education thought in his mass education thought, not only achieved successful verification in China in the 1920s and 1930s, but also guided the social reform in many Asian, African and Latin American countries and has profound influence on improving People's qualities and hastening the birth of modern democracy in these countries. Today, thus, understanding and analyzing the formation and development of Y.C. James Yan's citizen education thought are of profound theoretical and practical significance to strengthen civic awareness education and cultivate democratic political concepts.
