杨宪益汉诗英译理念的变迁——从《楚辞》到《红楼梦》

摘　　要：杨宪益的汉诗英译可以分为前后两个时期,从前期的《楚辞》翻译到后期的《红楼梦》诗词翻译,不同时期的译本体现出译者迥异的诗学理念。结合相关回忆性材料,对杨氏在不同时期关于"诗歌能否翻译"与"诗歌如何翻译"两个问题的诗学理念进行考察,揭示其汉诗英译诗学理念变迁的轨迹,同时客观描述了该过程中伴随发生的译者对翻译本身兴趣的变化,最后指出译者兴趣因素对于翻译行为的重要影响。Yang Hsien-yi’s career of Chinese-English poetry translation covers two distinctive phases.From translating Chuci in the earlier period to rendering the poems in Hongloumeng in the later period,his poetic ideals vary with the passage of time.With respect to other reminiscent articles,this article intends to draw an outline for the ideal change of his Chinese-English poetry translation in terms of whether and how poetry is to be translated by exploring his variant poetic ideals in two periods.Meanwhile this article is to provide an objective description of change in his interest towards translation as his job in synchronization with his ideal change,and to emphasize the predominant influence of translators’interest on the translation practice.
