摘　　要：本文基于美国知名汉学家兼译者威廉·莱尔(William A.Lyell)的中国现当代文学译介实践,结合副文本以及相关研究材料,从文本选择、翻译目的和翻译策略等方面考察莱尔的译介观。研究发现,在翻译选材上,莱尔注重文本类型的多样化,多用研究成果丰富的原文底本,偏爱反映中国国民性的题材;在翻译目的上,莱尔持有尊重异域文化的个人意识形态,喜好通过序跋、注释等方式达成传递中国文化的翻译目的;在翻译策略上,莱尔既坚持原文本内容完整性的实现,也关注“本位效果”的达成,比如译语表达的本土化、读者的反应、译作在译语文化的接受等。对莱尔的中国现当代文学译介观进行探究,可为译者研究以及中国文学外译研究提供一个历史观照。Combining an overview of the renowned American Sinologist and translator William Lyell and his translation practice of Chinese literature with close reading of paratexts and related researches,this paper examines Lyell’s view of translation from the following three aspects:selection of original works,translation purposes,and translation strategy.The study shows that in terms of selection of original works,Lyell preferred the diversity of text types,the original texts with abundant research,and topics that reflect Chinese nationality;in terms of translation purposes,Lyell embraced a personal ideology characterized by respect for foreign cultures and tended to achieve the purpose of translating Chinese culture through translator’s introduction,afterword,annotations,and other methods;in terms of translation strategies,Lyell adhered to the realization of content integrity as well as focused on the achievement of“target language standard effects”,such as localization of translation expressions,readers response,acceptance of translated works in the target language culture,etc.The analysis of Lyell’s view of modern and contemporary Chinese literature translation offers a historical reference to translator studies and Chinese literature translation studies.
