摘 要:中国古典诗词中的象征修辞有临时生成的,有约定俗成的,后者更为常见,类似于修辞原型。本文以描写菊花的象征修辞为例,分析其典型的象征意义及其对应的英译,发现古诗中的菊花多象征隐逸人格和卓傲人格。类似的象征修辞在对外译介过程中,要注意通过准确的措辞再现其中的互文关系与文化记忆,再现其中典型的拟人化象征话语,通过各种话语手段建构一个和原文类似的象征修辞场,发挥其象征效应。Symbolic rhetoric in classical Chinese poems is usually produced by cultural conventions,which is similar to the concept of rhetoric prototype.This paper,by analyzing the symbolic meaning and English translation of symbolic rhetoric in classical Chinese poems which depict chrysanthemums,finds that:(1)most of those symbolic chrysanthemum poems symbolize reclusive and care-free personality as well as proud and upright one;(2)as regards their English translation,attention should be paid to reproducing the intertextual clues and cultural memories as well as personalized symbolic expressions embedded in those poems through accurate translation so that a symbolic rhetorical field can be constructed similar to that in the original poems,a field that hopefully guarantees its overall symbolic effect.
