摘　　要：《弗朗西斯·麦康伯短促的幸福生活》的主题是恐惧,表面来看,麦康伯的恐惧构成了小说转折的基础,但实际上,他妻子的恐惧才是小说最终走向高潮的动因。小说真正的主题是他妻子玛格丽特的恐惧,而她的恐惧来自于二人之间较为固定的伦理关系发生了突变。The theme of The Short Happy life of Francis Macomber is fear.Superficially Macomber's fear forms the basis of the turning point of the novel,but in fact,it is his wife's fear that drives the novel to its climax.The real theme of the novel is the fear of his wife Margaret,and her fear comes from a sudden change in the fixed ethical relationship between her and him.
