中国科技英语的教学范式转移:从科技英语到科技学科英语--两代科学家的看法

摘　　要：公共英语应取向普通英语还是科技英语?从对中国科学院大学科学家1991年和2019年的两次调查发现,今天的科学家对科技英语的认识有了很大的提高,但是对于外语教师在科技英语教学中所起的作用,还存在各种看法上的分歧。经调查和讨论,认为:科技英语教学的主力军是语言教师而不是专业教师;科技英语应深入各学科的英语表达而不是停留在共性层面上,因此科技学科英语比科技英语似乎更必要更迫切;科技学科英语课程应从本科阶段开设而不只为研究生开设;学生科研论文写作的问题源于学生缺少严格的科研论文写作训练,而不仅仅因其语言水平偏低。Should tertiary English teaching be English for General Purposes(EGP)oriented or English for Science&Technology(EST)oriented?Through two surveys conducted in 1991 and 2019 among two generations of scientists in University of Chinese Academy of Sciences,we find that despite the changed perceptions of EST,similar opinions exist as to the role language teachers play in the EST instruction.We believe that language teachers should bear chief responsibility for it rather than subject teachers;EST should focus on discipline-specific language rather than common cores,and therefore EDST(English for Disciplinary Science&Technology)is a more urgent;EDST should be provided among undergraduates rather than postponed to postgraduates.The reason that students’academic writing suffers from poor logic is that they lack the training of writing research articles for publication rather than their low English proficiency.
