公共艺术能推动社会进步吗?以美国休斯敦排屋项目为例

摘　　要：获得"麦克阿瑟奖"等美国国家级奖项资助的休斯敦排屋项目起源于艺术,结缘于社区。它由艺术家发起,开展公共艺术项目和全年展览;资助青年学生;让旧屋变成创意办公空间,吸引年轻的艺术家和创意人才;也为年轻的单亲妈妈和孩子提供公益住房和社区支持。这个项目实现了公共艺术以社区为对象的创作和展示,发展了本地的美育资源,也为社区存在的社会问题提供了解决答案。项目发起人里克·罗也是一位成功的艺术家,他的初衷是为社区带来积极的影响,这与《孟子》的名句"达则兼济天下"有着异曲同工之妙。排屋项目的理念和影响超越了公共艺术项目本身,更像是一场促进了社区振兴的社会实验。本文以排屋项目为案例进行分析,阐释其在美国社会广受认可和好评的原因,同时比较类似的公共艺术项目,对排屋项目的未来发展趋势提出见解和思考。As the winner of Mac Arthur Foundation"Genius Grant"and many other national fundings—Project Row House have their roots in the arts and the community.Initiated by the artist,this project turns historical shotgun houses to appealing public art exhibition,and creative offices.As a mission,project row house cultivates young artists and attracts creative talents for the community.Additionally,The Project provides young single mothers with transitional housing and community support for them and their children.Project Row House not only gives consideration to the realization of public art,but also develops the resource for local artistic education,which brings further positive influence and solutions to the social problems.As an established artist,Rick Rowe,the founder of this project,intended to bring positive influence to the community by the row house,which is similar to the famous quote of Mencius,"in time of success,one shall commit to the welfare of others".The concept and influence of the project row house go beyond the public art project itself but more like a social experiment that promotes urban renewal in the community.This paper will takes the row house project as a case study to analyze and explain the reasons why it is widely recognized and praised in American society.Meanwhile,this paper will compare similar public art projects and discuss different opinions and thoughts on the future development trend of the project row house.
