《道德经》英译策略选用的语境效果诠释

摘　　要：在《道德经》英译中采用何种翻译策略以及如何操作,将直接决定取得何种语境效果。关联理论提出的四种语境效果——语境暗含、加强、矛盾、削弱,可以有效涵盖复杂的人类交际和充分阐释《道德经》英译行为、过程和结果。在《道德经》英译中采用三个英译策略——归化策略、异化策略、妥协策略,旨在使《道德经》英译文在英语读者身上取得语境暗含和加强这两种正面语境效果。在《道德经》英译中,三个英译策略的具体运用层面是不同的:归化策略始终针对目的语形式表征,异化策略始终针对老子思想内容本色表征,妥协策略则是对原文某些局部措辞或结构进行最小限度的归化表征。What translation strategies are adopted and how they are used will directly determine the contextual effects to be achieved in translating Of Tao And Virtues.Such four contextual effects as contextual implications,strengthenings,contradictions and weakenings on the part of Relevance Theory cover well the various complex situations of human communication,thus being capable of accounting for effectively the behaviors,the procedures and the results in translating Of Tao And Virtues into English.Such three translation strategies as domestication,foreignization and compromise should be adopted to translate Of Tao And Virtues into English,with the intention of enabling the English readers to achieve such two positive contextual effects as contextual implications and strengthenings.The levels concerning the practical application of the above three strategies are different:the strategy of domestication is aimed at the form expression of the target language throughout,the strategy of foreignization aimed at the true representation of Lao Zi’s ideological content throughout,the strategy of compromise aimed at the minimal domestication of some partial original words and structures in translation.
