汉语中语义复杂的四字成语英译研究

摘　　要：在汉译英笔译活动中,成语的英译极为常见且尤为重要,它象征着文化的传承与表达。然而语义复杂的四字成语表面看似简单,仅由四字构成,实则具有着丰富的文化内涵。因其结构组合复杂多样、背后隐藏之意颇深,成语英译活动中常容易出现表意不清、语义缺失、顾此失彼等问题,难以根据其字面意义进行简单的字对字翻译,常用的直译也早已无法满足成语英译的需求,成为翻译活动中的一大难题。针对语义较为复杂的汉语成语的英译,通过比较汉英间的差异,探讨如何采用增词法、意译法等翻译方法来解决汉语中表意为紧缩句和名词性短语的成语英译困难,希望能够对日后汉语成语英译活动研究有所帮助,促进中国成语文化的传播与发展。In Chinese-English translation,English translation of idioms is quite common and particularly significant,which symbolizes the inheritance and expression of Chinese culture.However,the seemingly simple four Chinese characters are actually embedded with rich and splendid cultural connotations,and usually convey a rather profound and complicated meaning due to their complex,diverse yet fixed structure.When it comes to Chinese-English translation of idioms,problems such as ambiguous meaning and semantic loss usually occur.It is barely possible to translate idioms from Chinese to English with simple word-to-word translation strategy merely according to their literal meaning,while the commonly used literal translation method could not meet the accurate and proper English translation demand of idioms,which contributes to some major problems in idiom translation.This paper is written to solve the Chinese-English translation problems of idioms with the meaning of contracted sentences and nominal phrases through adopting different translation methods,such as addition and free translation strategy,based on the comparison of the differences between Chinese and English to achieve authentic idiom Chinese-English translation.It is hoped that it may contribute a little to the course of idiom Chinese-English translation in the future,and promote the Chinese idiom culture inheritance and development.
