《三字经》裨治文的两次译介行为考察

摘　　要：当前学界考察裨治文对《三字经》的译介主要聚焦于《中国丛报》译本,忽视了《广东方言读本》节译本的学术价值,不利于全面、客观评价裨译《三字经》这一历史翻译活动。本文结合具体的历史语境,考察裨治文两次译介《三字经》在译介目的、受众、排版、副文本、翻译风格五个维度呈现的显著差异,并剖析原因,揭示裨治文译介《三字经》产生的影响,为当下中华传统文化海外传播提供历史借鉴。客观上,裨治文译介《三字经》为促进中华传统文化和粤语方言在当时的英语世界传播做出了重要贡献。The current research on the translation of the Three Character Classic by Bridgman mainly focus on the translation in The Chinese Repository,ignoring the academic value of the abridged translation in A Chinese Chrestomathy in the Canton Dialect,which is not conducive to a comprehensive and objective evaluation of the historical translation activity of Bridgman’s translation of the Three Character Classic.This paper investigates the significant differences between the two translations in five dimensions:translation purpose,target readers,typography,paratext,and translation style,and analyzes the reasons for them.It is aimed to reveal the impact of the translation of the Three Character Classic by Bridgman,and provide historical references for the current overseas dissemination of traditional Chinese culture.Objectively,through the translation of the Three Character Classic,Bridgman made an important contribution to the promotion of traditional Chinese culture and the spread of Cantonese in the English-speaking world of the time.
