摘 要:日本学者山井湧曾提出,“太极”虽然看起来在朱子哲学中很重要,但实际上朱子并没有把“太极”当作自己的哲学术语来使用。美籍华裔学者陈荣捷撰文商榷,认为太极在朱子哲学中甚为重要,但也承认,宇宙论本体论不是朱子哲学的归宿。当代一些学者仍然在重复陈荣捷之说。陈荣捷对太极重要性的论证并不彻底,也没有从根本上驳倒山井湧,所以应该接着陈荣捷往前推进,全面检讨山井湧的论证并对其做出彻底反驳:太极对于朱子哲学非常重要。Japanese scholar Yamanoi Yūonce proposed that although the Great Ultimate seems to be very important in Zhu Xi’s philosophy,Zhu Xi did not use the Great Ultimate as his own philosophical term.The Chinese American scholar Wing-tsit Chan wrote an article discussing this,believing that the Great Ultimate is very important in Zhu Xi’s philosophy,but also admitting that cosmology or ontology is not the goal of Zhu Xi’s philosophy.Some contemporary scholars are still repeating what Chan said.Chan’s argument on the importance of the Great Ultimate is not complete,nor does it fundamentally refute Yamanoi Yu.This paper,then,progresses from Wing-tsit Chan,completely refuting the argument of Yamanoi through a comprehensive review,and correctly naming the importance of the Great Ultimate to Zhu Xi’s philosophy.
