摘 要:曾朴于1912年翻译了法国作家雨果的小说《九三年》(曾朴译为“九十三年”),译文所用的文言语体精炼简洁,与雨果语言的繁复详尽形成鲜明的对比,然而,这位法国浪漫主义小说家的激情和诗意在曾朴的译文中还是得到了充分的展现。原作对话中展示的具体情境与人物内在情感,与文言文所代表的历史积淀难以兼容,因而产生间离效果,令人难以感受到原作人物的生命力;另一方面,译文对人物的动作和感情的描述采用了夸张和渲染手法,甚至从一定程度上改变了某些人物的性格特征;此外,原作中分布于小说各个情境中的哲人点评叙述被译者删除,使原本表露的作者政治思想和世界观,在译文中隐形。以上三方面反映出译者的翻译选择及其深层的文学观与世界观。Victor Hugo’s novel Pu used semi-classical Chinese which contrasts sharply with Hugo’s elaborate and detailed language, but the poetic and passionate tone of the French novelist is fully expressed in Zeng’s translation. This paper shows that classical Chinese can hardly express the concrete situation and immanent emotions of the dialogues, thus producing a distancing effect and reducing the vitality of some characters;at the same time, Zeng’s translation amplifies and exaggerates the descriptions of the characters’ gestures and emotions, and even changes some of their personality traits;moreover,the philosophical narrative of Hugo’s novel has been suppressed, so that the author’s political thought and worldview become invisible. This article analyses Zeng’s translation from these three aspects, with the aim of understanding the translator’s choices and revealing his deeper literary conception and worldview.
