翻译过程中省译策略的运用及其认知研究

摘　　要：省译指译者在翻译过程中省去原文或部分原文未进行翻译,它属于译者常用翻译策略之一。目前,鲜有研究关注省译策略在翻译过程中的运用及其认知理据。本研究通过自建三个汉英英汉双语平行语料库,选择词和句子两类语言单位,以中文叠词和英文连词为研究窗口,考察省译在真实翻译情境中的使用情况。研究发现:(1)省译在词和句子层面大量存在;(2)翻译中文叠词和英文连词时,译者均倾向于采用省译策略来翻译,分别占比58.23%和56.55%。理论上翻译需要传递源语信息,达到交际的目的,即是要“译”。然而,译者如此频繁使用省译作为编码方式来加工原文,可能是其认知系统受到内外因素的制约所致。Omission in translation means that the translator omits the original text or part of the original text during the translation process.It is one of the translators’common translation strategies.At present,few studies have focused on the use of omission in the translation process and its cognitive basis.Based on three self-built Chinese-English bilingual parallel corpora,this study investigates how omission is employed in real translation situations by looking at two types of linguistic units,words and sentences.More specifically,Chinese duplicated words and English conjunctions are taken as the research window.It is found that:1)numerous omissions exist at the word and sentence level;2)when translating Chinese duplicated words and English conjunctions,translators tend to adopt omission strategies,accounting for 58.23%and 56.55%respectively.In theory,translation needs to deliver information in the source language to the target readers for the purpose of communication,that is,to“translate”.However,translators employ omission so frequently as an encoding method to process the original text,which may be due to the restrictions of factors inside and outside of their cognitive system.
