English and Chinese are different in syntax, since they belong to different language families and language forms. Passive sentence is a sentence structure that often appears in many languages, including English and Chinese. Therefore, in translation practice and related translation studies, how to translate passive sentences is one of the issues that people pay attention to. Skopos theory requires that all translation activities should follow the “Skopos principle”, that is, translation should function in the target language context and culture in the way that the target language audience expects. English passive sentences are often used in many types of articles. In order to enable readers to better understand and use passive sentences, this paper, based on the different characteristics of English and Chinese, according to the different expression types of passive sentences, analyzes passive sentences in archaeological literature as the main case in the perspective of Skopos theory, and discusses the translation methods of English passive sentences.
