摘　　要：玄奘所撰《大唐西域记》记载了唐朝以西各国风土人情及文化形态,反映了中原和西域国家、城邦的友好往来和互动。自1884年首次在英语世界译介以来,该书历经两次英译高潮,产生3个全译本和3个节译本。文章采用历时和微观比较研究方法,爬梳《大唐西域记》英译历程,探讨该书在中国文化西传中发挥的重要作用,以期对典籍翻译与中国文化海外传播提供有效借鉴。Datang Xiyu Ji by Xuanzang,an eminent Chinese scholar⁃monk,provides extensive information about the local customs and cultures along 138 countries in Central and Southern Asia and unveils the cultural exchanges and interactions between China and the rest of the world.Ever since its first English edition in 1884,it has now boasted three complete English translations and three abridged ones.Therefore,this paper makes a review of its English translations from historical and comparative perspectives in order to delve into the significant role Datang Xiyu Ji has played in advancing the westward dissemination of the Chinese culture,thus shedding some light on the Chinese Classics translation.
