摘 要:成语英译是初学翻译的人经常遇到的难题。本文基于求“似”的翻译观,结合成语的形式特征及其实际使用情况,讨论了直译、意译、改译三种技巧。本文认为:成语的翻译只能取得近似的结果;翻译之前,可先分析成语的形式特征及实际运用情况,再据此采取相应的译法;一般来说,直译适用于成语的形式特征可以保留的时候,意译适用于形式特征不易保留的时候,而改译则适用于成语运用不当的时候。The translation of Chinese idioms into English presents a common challenge for novice translators. This paper advocates for a translation philosophy that prioritizes seeking similarity rather than strict equivalence.By analyzing the formal characteristics and usage of idioms, the study explores three translation methods:literal translation, free translation, and adaptation. It argues that achieving exact translation of idioms is often unattainable. Therefore, before translating,it is essential to analyze the formal characteristics and actual usage of idioms to determine the most suitable translation methods.Generally, literal translation is appropriate when the formal features of idioms can be preserved, free translation when preserving the formal features is challenging, and adaptation when idioms are used inappropriately.
