副文本视角下基于读者评论的中国典籍外译——以《论语》三译本为例

摘　　要：文化“走出去”战略背景下,中国优秀文化外译话语体系的构建离不开典籍外译路径的创新和发展。当前,国内副文本视角下的典籍外译实证研究较为缺乏。以中国儒学典籍《论语》的刘殿爵译本、杨伯峻和亚瑟·威利合译本以及安乐哲和罗思文合译本为例,从副文本角度出发,运用Python数据处理技术对美国亚马逊和好读平台上相关的读者评价信息进行定量与定性分析。研究发现,近年来,《论语》及其副文本海外关注度都在不断上升,提升副文本的翻译和创建质量能有效促进中国典籍译作的海外传播与接受。上述三个译本中,副文本海外接受度最高的为中国译者翻译,海外出版社出版的刘殿爵译本,中外合作在典籍外译过程中扮演着重要的角色。海外读者对《论语》英译本中关注度最高的5项副文本元素依次是引言、注释、附录、脚注和评论,关注原因与原作文本特征和读者期待息息相关。In the context of the Go Out Policy of Chinese culture,the construction of discourse system for Chinese cultural translation cannot be divorced from the innovation and development of the translation of Chinese classics.At present,there is a lack of empirical research on translation of Chinese classics from the perspective of paratext.Taking the English translation by D.C.Lau,translation by Arthur Waley and Yang Bojun and translation by Roger Ames and Henry Rosemont of the Chinese Confucian classic The Analects of Confucius as research objects,we conducted a quantitative and qualitative study on the readers’reviews on Amazon and Goodreads from the perspective of paratext by using Python data processing technology.It is found that in recent years,The Analects of Confucius and its paratexts have received increasing attention overseas.Improving the quality of translation and creation of paratexts is an effective way to promote the overseas dissemination and acceptance of translated Chinese classics.Among the above three translations,the one with the highest overseas acceptance of the paratexts is the translation by Chinese translator Lau published by Penguin Books Ltd.Sino-foreign cooperation plays an important role in the translation of Chinese classics.The five paratextual elements that overseas readers pay the most attention to in the English translation of The Analects of Confucius are introduction,note,appendix,footnote and commentary,and the reasons for their attention are closely related to the characteristics of the original text and readers’expectations.
