As an important paratext in translation activities, annotations play a crucial role in text interpretation and cultural transmission. However, annotation research has long been marginalized in the field of Translation Studies. This paper takes Lu Xun's annotated translations as the research object and categorizes annotations into editors'notes, translators'notes, and original authors'notes based on the classification proposed by French literary theorist Gerard Genette. The study finds that in contrast to the abundant editors'notes in Lu Xun's own writings, the editors'notes in his translations have maintained a state of"silence",reflecting the changing recognition of the value of Lu Xun's translations by the mainstream discourse.Meanwhile,Lu Xun consistently added translators'notes to his translations from 1921 onwards, demonstrating his pursuit of"faithfulness".The colloquial style of his translators'notes creates a tension with the formal style of the main text, revealing his localization tendency. The paper concludes by suggesting that investigating translation agents from the perspective of annotations can deepen textual analysis and uncover the complexity and dynamics of translation activities.
