摘  要:20世纪上半叶,法学家兼翻译家吴经熊逆“西学东渐”潮流而动,组织创办《天下月刊》并刊发中国古代典籍《道德经》英译本和大量古典诗歌英译作品,积极向西方宣传中国文化,促进中国文化的传播。以翻译家吴经熊为研究对象,剖析特定社会背景下吴经熊作为杰出翻译家在时代语境中的选择决策的动态过程,分析影响其译者身份生成、译介选材、翻译策略的各种因素,以期为翻译家研究和中国文化的国际传播提供参考。In the first half of the 20th century,jurist and translator John C.H.Wu diverged from the prevailing trend of"Western Learning Spreading to the East"by founding T'ien Hsia Monthly.He published the English translation of the ancient Chinese classic Tao Te Ching along with a substantial body of translated works of classical Chinese poetry.Wu actively introduced Chinese culture to the West and facilitated the dissemination of Chinese culture.By focusing on him as the research object,this article analyzes the dynamic process of decision-making by John C.H.Wu as an outstanding translator in a special social context.It examines various factors influencing John C.H.Wu's translator identity,translation materials selection and translation strategies in hope of providing an insight for translator studies and shedding fresh light on the dissemination of Chinese literature and culture abroad.
