In the study of Confucian classics during the Han Dynasty, there existed an oral tradition of annotations.By clarifying the significance of several historical documents related to Confucian classics study, the oral tradition of annotations can be reconstructed.Furthermore,by examining the oral annotations of Confucian classics in the Han Dynasty, two major issues in Han scholarship can be addressed:First,Kong Anguo in the Western Han Dynasty did annotate the Analects of Confucius and the Book of Filial Piety, but these annotations were only transmitted orally in later generations, leading to misunderstandings.Second,Liu Xiang and Liu Xin focused their proofreading efforts solely on written texts, without committing to documenting the oral tradition of the Confucian classics in writing.Additionally,it is important to emphasize that the oral tradition of annotations in Han Dynasty Confucian classics study was centered around written Confucian classics and developed in relation to them.
