基于语料库的中国英语学习者议论文写作中模糊限制语的使用研究

摘  要:本文基于中国学生万篇英语作文语料库(TECCL),分别建立中学生、普通高校学生和重点高校学生议论文子语料库,通过与英语本族语者英语作文语料库(NESSIE)进行对比和子语料库间的横向对比,探究不同阶段和不同水平的中国英语学习者议论文写作中模糊限制语的使用情况。研究发现,中国英语学习者在议论文写作中模糊限制语的使用与本族语者有显著差异,存在少用、滥用及缺乏多样性现象。不同阶段和不同水平英语学习者在议论文写作中直接缓和型模糊限制语的使用也存在显著性差异,高水平者和本科生直接缓和语的使用情况更接近于本族语者。希望本文能对今后的二语写作教学有所启发。Based on the Ten-thousand English Compositions of Chinese Learners(TECCL)corpus,the study creates 3 subcorpora,composed of argumentative essays writen by students from middle schools,general colleges,and key universities in China.Through comparing with Native English Speakers’Similarly or Identically-prompted Essays(NESSIE)corpusandcomparisonsbe-tween the 3 subcorpora,the study investigates the use of hedges in argumentative writing by Chi-nese English learners at different stages and levels.Research has found that there are significant differences in the use of hedges in argumentative writing between Chinese English learners and native speakers,with phenomena of underuse,abuse,and lack of diversity.There are also signif-icant differences in the use of plausibility shields in argumentative writing among English learners at different stages and levels.The use of plausibility shields by high-level and undergraduate students is closer to that of native speakers.This article can provide inspiration for future teaching of second language writing.
