摘　　要：在探讨《史记》的英译版本时,杜为廉和约翰·斯科特二人的《史记》英译本《军阀》往往未获得倪豪士和华兹生的《史记》翻译那样的关注度。尽管如此,杜为廉和斯科特译本依旧有其价值。该文详细分析杜为廉和斯科特二人为英译本所撰写的两篇序言,并将二人的译本和其他译本做比较,分析其译本的得失。研究发现,虽然二人译本不适合作为学术研究的主要参考资料,但学术价值并不能完全成为评价译本的唯一标准,应该把此译本视为二人教学经验的部分成果,考虑其作为教育资源的实用性,以及它在文化传播中所起到的桥梁作用,可以看出这一译本在特定历史语境下的独特贡献。In discussions of English translations of Records of the Grand Historian,War Lords translation by William Dolby and John Scott has received less attention than the translations by William Nienhauser and Burton Watson.Nevertheless,the Dolby-Scott translation holds its own value.Through analyzing their two prefaces and comparing their translation with other versions,this paper examines the strengths and limitations of their work.While this translation may not serve as a primary reference for academic research,scholarly value should not be the sole criterion for evaluation.Rather,this translation should be viewed as a product of their teaching experience,considering both its practical value as an educational resource and its role in facilitating cultural exchange.This perspective highlights the translation's unique contribution within its specific historical context.
