摘　　要：为满足 2 1世纪对高素质人才的要求 ,全面培养学生的综合英语素质是理工科院校英语教学的艰巨任务。Traditional English teaching lay stress on knowledge,neglecting application;lay stress on language,neglecting culture which lead to a severe limitation in students English quality,so cultivating students comprehensive English quality is the arduous task of English teaching in colleges and universities of science and engineering.The paper points out the limitations of the students' English quality and ways to improve it in order to achieve a big step forward in English teaching.
