摘 要:中国高校对大学英语教学目标的探讨大多在语言交往能力上。但大学英语的目标不能总限制在语言交往能力;在借鉴国外的理论和实践的基础上,可以将其扩展到以提高学术认知为目标,特别是在当前建设世界一流大学和学科的形势下,在中国研究型高校中,推行真正的“学术英语”,即不是简单的将科技内容加到英语中,而是通过小组课题研究教学方式在英语教学中融入提高学术能力的内容及教学方法,为我国大学英语的发展提供更宽的思路。Chinese universities usually focus on the communication function of English teaching as the mis-sion of College English. However, College English courses cannot be confined to this function, but should push the boundary to explore the possibilities of extending College English from commu-nication function of language to academic cognitive improvement of the students;not simply combines the courses of College English with Science-Technology English materials, but to incorporate the academic thinking and practice into College English teaching, such as the research-based teamwork so as to improve the academic competence of the students. This is instrumental for those research universities that targets on building themselves into World First Class Universities. It also helps to upgrade the status of College English in China and an alternative development path to College English in China.
