摘 要:专门用途英语(English for Specific Purposes, ESP)和通用英语(English for General Purposes, EGP)最大的区别和联系都可见于其词汇特征。ESP词义多由EGP词义演化而来,较EGP更具“专业特性”。认知语言学中的原型范畴理论(Prototype Theory)为ESP词汇教学的研究提供了新的视角。本文以体育英语为例,根据体育英语词汇特征,分别建立强调横向维度的范畴和强调纵向维度的范畴,并以建立范畴为基础,举例讨论了原型范畴理论在ESP和EGP融合模式词汇教学法中的应用,分析了该理论视角下的教学方法在词汇教学中的适用性,为以EGP内容为主的大学英语课堂向ESP和EGP融合模式的转变提出了具有可行性的方式。The major difference and also the connection between English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and English for General Purposes (EGP) can be seen in their lexical features. The meanings of ESP vo-cabulary are mostly evolved from those of EGP, which is more “specialized”. The Prototype Theory in cognitive linguistics provides a new perspective for the study of ESP vocabulary teaching. In this paper, taking sports English as an example, categories that emphasize both the horizontal dimension and the vertical dimension are respectively established according to the characteristics of sports English vocabulary. Based on those categories, the application of Prototype Theory in the “ESP + EGP” vocabulary teaching method is discussed, thus putting forward a feasible way for the transform of EGP-based college English course into an “ESP + EGP” integration model.
