Idioms are the essence of Chinese language, known for their concise and expressive literary characteristics, usually conveying profound philosophy and artistic conception in a concise form. Therefore, in the process of Chinese translation, the clever use of Chinese idioms can undoubtedly enhance the literary value of the work, improve the artistic effect of the novel and attract more readers’ attention. This study takes “One Room” by Kobayashi Takiji, a representative of Japanese proletarian literature, as the blueprint. The novel vividly depicts the struggles of the protagonist Taguchi, a proletarian fighter, in prison, showing the noble spirit of the proletarian fighter who is tenacious and courageous. In the process of translation, the translator attempts to use Chinese idioms in the translation, aiming to inject unique artistic vitality into the Chinese version of the novel, and provide a useful reference for the translation practice of proletarian literature.
