摘 要:习语文化凝聚了一个国家的历史背景、宗教信仰、地域特征和文化习俗,因此,正确了解并英译汉语习语对促进我国文化的传播和发展,以及在保证我国与其周边国家文化及经济交流上有着深远的战略意义;由于汉英两种语言的文化背景差异,在翻译过程中对汉语习语的英译也在近年来得到广泛研讨。文章将依据奈达的功能对等理论,以部分代表中国特色的习语为例,从词汇、句法和语用三个层面对该习语进行分析,着重探讨习语的翻译如何追求对等的效果,最终达到促进不同文化交流的目的。Idiom culture reflects a country’s historical background, religious beliefs, regional characteristics and cultural customs. Therefore, correctly understanding and translating Chinese idioms has far- reaching strategic significance in spreading and developing our culture, as well as in ensuring the cultural and economic exchanges between our country and neighboring countries. Due to the differences in the cultural backgrounds of Chinese and English languages, the C-E translation of Chinese idioms has also been widely discussed in recent years. Based on Naida’s theory of functional equivalence, the article will take some idioms representing Chinese characteristics as examples, analyze the idioms from the three levels of vocabulary, syntax and pragmatics, and focus on how to achieve the effect of equivalence in the translation of idioms, and finally achieve the purpose of promoting the communication between different cultures.
