摘　　要：大学素质教育是中国高教界"制造"的概念,它既不出自欧美,也不同于基础教育领域里的素质教育概念。在中国逐渐融入全球化发展之时,我们不妨从西方学者常常谈论的"大学理念"和"大学功能"入手,以世界高等教育文明史作为背景,通过中西文化比较,辨析大学素质教育的本质特征,探讨未来中国大学教育改革的方向。Quality education in university is a concept created by the Chinese higher education sector. It does not come from the Western world, and it is different from the concept of quality education in primary and secondary education system. While China is being involved in the globalization development, we would like to discuss the essential characteristics of quality education in university and explore the direction of the education reform in Chinese universities using the method of comparison between Chinese and Western cultures and starting from the ideas of ＂university ideal＂ and ＂university function＂ which are often talked about by western scholars.
