摘 要:在改革开放的30年中,培养复合型外语人才的试验是我国外语教育中影响最大、涉及范围最广的一次改革。这一改革取得了一定的成绩,培养了一批复合型外语人才,但是,围绕这一问题也有不少争论和质疑。本文对比了国外外语专业和国内外语专业办学的差异,并回顾了国内复合型外语人才培养的种种做法和模式,指出专业复合和跨学科可以在不同范围和不同层次实现,但是,不能把这一任务完全交给英语院系。无论从国外大学还是从国内大学的办学经验来看,英语专业的专长在于文学、文化、语言学和地区研究,应该着重本学科建设,发挥本学科特长。笔者还建议应该制订不同类别的教学大纲以适应不同地区和不同条件的英语专业教学。The experiment in training foreign language graduates of a composite nature is the most influential and extensive teaching reform in China's foreign language education in the past thirty years. This reform has yielded positive results and succeeded in training a contingent of graduates with both language proficiency and vocational expertise. But there remain a number of disputes and queries. In this paper the author makes comparisons between foreign language majors in Chinese universities and those in universities in other countries, and reviews the different models and methods adopted in Chinese universities. The paper points out that interdisciplinary studies can be realized at different levels and in varying fields, but they should not be left entirely to the English departments. Judging by the experience of universities at home and overseas, the strengths of the English departments lie in literature, cultural studies, linguistics and area studies. They should take advantage of and develop their own specialities. It is suggested that teaching syllabuses should be tailored to the needs of different areas and the varying conditions of the English departments.
