摘　　要：李提摩太在华传教的过程中,接触和认识中国社会,由宗教而政治,由宗教及社会,由传播福音、培养信徒到关注民生、热衷教育。特别是在晚清的教育改革中,他批判晚清中国教育状况,倡导西方教育思想,参与创立山西大学堂,积极进行教育实践,对中国教育近代化产生了重要影响。In the process of doing missionary work in China,Timothy Richard approached and got to know the Chinese society from religion to politics.He propagated Gospel and fostered believers.And he paid close attention to people＇s life and was keen on education.Especially in the educational reform of late Qing Dynasty,he criticized the Chinese educational situation,initiated western educational ideas,set up Shanxi Academy,and performed the modern education actively,which had made an important influence on the modernization of Chinese education.
