摘  要:对远程学习者特征的关注和模型的建立一直是远程教育研究的热点。随着中国高等教育进入大众化阶段,学习者的特征与需求已发生了悄然的变化。追踪这些变化并随之进行恰当的行动研究以解决现实中的问题,不仅是课程教学团队建设的需要、学科专业建设的需要,更是开放大学建设的需要。本研究对全国7所省级电大的英语专科1144名学生进行了问卷调查,分析了新形势下远程学习者的特征和需求,在教学策略上做了设计,并依靠课程教学团队有针对性地提出了解决措施和方案。Learner characteristics and learning modes have been top on research agenda in distance education With popularization of Higher Education in China, learner characteristics have changed significantly. Following and studying these changes is not only an important task for the course teams, it is also a fundamental need of the future Open University of China. This survey studied 1144 students on an English diploma program from 7 provincial RTVUs, analyzing the changes of the learners' characteristics and needs. As is obvious in the findings, RTVU students are getting younger with their jobs dropping to lower ranks; their entrance English level is very low, with main difficulties in vocabulary, speaking and grammar; online learning s far from satisfactory due to time limitation, inadequate learning motivation and lack of external monitoring and in terms of course assessment, students prefer a combination of online continuous assessment and paper-based end-of-course examination. The authors suggest that blended teaching and learning should be adopted with more efforts in online instruction and assessment in accordance with the changes in earner characteristics and needs
