Research shows, emotional cognition of sadness between English and Chinese is primarily root- ed in our bodily experience of the emotion and our perception of human bodies, but conditioned by their indi- vidual cultural backgrounds and modes of thinking as well, i.e. English and Chinese metaphors of sadness are characterized by both embodied commonness and cultural idiosyncrasies. And this paper interprets the cognitive commonness of English and Chinese metaphors of sadness from the perspective of embodied cognition and em- bodied philosophy, and explores the cause of the differences between the two from the perspective of idealized cognitive model.
