论林纾“误译”的根源

摘　　要：林纾的翻译在我国乃至世界翻译史上都是一个特殊现象 ,他不审西文 ,却凭他的古文翻译在当时取得了巨大的成功 ,对以后也产生了深远的影响。对他的译本 ,一直以来 ,毁誉参半 ,其译本中存在的大量讹误多是倍受指摘的目标 ,评论家们一般把他的误译归咎于口述者或林纾本人的粗率大意。该文却指出林译小说中的许多讹误常常是林纾有意选择的结果。文章从晚清的社会及文学背景、中国的翻译传统及华夏文化的自我推崇三方面来分析他误译的根源 ,指出他的误译中有很多在当时来看是合理的 ,也是必要的。Lin Shus translation is an unusual phenomenon in Chinas, and even the worlds, history oftranslation. There exist a number of errors in his translations, which give rise to criticism. Critics owe them to his corraborators or his own carelessness. This paper tries to identify the origin of his translation errors and,k in view of the social background of the late Qing Dynasty and the self\|centredness of Chinese culture, holds that Lin was intentional in making many of his errors.
