摘 要:《花笺记》是明清歌唱本诗体小说,以中国式"史诗"率先走出国门,是享誉世界文坛的经典著作。以英汉翻译中的超额与欠额现象为切入点,以《花笺记》汤译和万译为主要研究对象,全面系统地对比两种译本的翻译特点,从实践层面客观审视译本中超额和欠额现象的存在,探讨中国典籍外译过程中译者翻译策略选择、文化语场界定和语言能力运用等问题。Hua Jian Ji was a fiction in verse which was written during Ming and Qing Dynasties. Treated as the first epic in China, the translated version of this masterpiece has been spread over to the western world and enjoyed a good reputation for a long time. Starting with the over - translation and under - translation in English - Chinese translation,this paper tends to analyze the characteristics of two translation versions of Hua Jian Ji,Thoms'Chinese Courtship in Verse and Bowring's the Flowery Scroll by comparison, and examines the existence of under - translation and over - translation in them from the perspective of practice. Finally, the paper explores some problems like the selection of translator's translation strategy, the definition of cultural language field and the application of linguistic competence in the process of translation for Chinese classics.
