译者主体性与山水诗歌英译研究--以《次北固山下》多个英译本为例  

Translator’s Subjectivity in the English Translation of Landscape Poetry--A case study of several English versions of Ci Bei Gu Shan Xia

摘　　要：《次北固山下》一诗是盛唐时期诗人王湾的传世佳作,该诗历久弥新,在国内的传颂程度令人惊叹。唐代郑谷曾用“何如海日生残夜,一句能令万古传”,来抒发各路诗人对王湾的艳羡之意。的确,在历史的长河中,郑谷那句“万古传”得到了验证。目前,该诗的知名英译本共四个,分别是许渊冲、维特·宾纳(Witter Bynner)和江亢虎、托尼·巴恩斯通(Tony Barnstone)和周平、比尔·波特(Red Pine)的译本。译诗,尤其是唐诗英译,是译者风格最为强烈的艺术,译者的主体性势必会渗透到翻译过程中的方方面面,这也会波及诗歌的形式转换、意义传递、意境再现,等等。本文以译者主体性为切入口,再从“诗歌意义未定点”和“再现意境之美”两个维度对比分析《次北固山下》的四个知名译本,以探析各译本独特的翻译方法和译文特色。Ci Bei Gu Shan Xia,a famous ancient landscape poem,is a masterpiece written by Wang Wan,a poet in the prosperous Tang Dynasty.The popularity of the poem in China has been lasting.In the Tang Dynasty,Zheng Gu once expressed the envy from various ordinary poets to Wang Wan with“How should we write a poem like Wang Wan?One line of his poem can be memorized through the ages”.Indeed,Ci Bei Gu Shan Xia has been considered as a timeless work since it was created.At present,there are four well-known English versions of the poem from several famous translators,namely,Xu Yuanchong,Witter Bynner and Kiang Kang-hu,Tony Barnstone and Chou Ping and Bill Porter(who writes as Red Pine).Poetry translation,especially the English translation of Tang poetry,is endowed with translator’s unique style.The translator’s subjectivity affects the whole translation process,formal equivalence,meaning representation,reproduction of artistic conception and so on.Taking the translator’s subjectivity as a starting point,this paper makes a comparative analysis of the four well-known versions of Ci Bei Gu Shan Xia from the two dimensions of“undetermined poetic meaning”and“reproducing the beauty of artistic conception”,so as to explore the unique translation methods and translation characteristics of each version.
