摘　　要：哈斯勒·惠特尼是20世纪美国著名的拓扑学家,1982年沃尔夫数学奖获得者。惠特尼在图论、可微映射、代数拓扑、几何积分、奇点理论领域做出了重大贡献,开创了微分流形的拓扑学,使得拓扑学的中心逐渐从欧洲转移到美国。惠特尼与中国数学家有着深刻的学术联系,因而对中国数学的发展产生了深远影响。Hassler Whitney is a famous American topologist of the 20th century,the winner of Wolf Prize in Mathematics in 1982.Whitney has made significant contributions in the fields of graph theory,differentiable mapping,algebraic topology,geometric integration,and singularity theory,and founded the topology of differential manifolds,which shifted the center of topology gradually from Europe to the United States.Whitney has a close academic relationship with Chinese mathematicians,and he has a profound impact on the development of Chinese mathematics.
