摘 要:由阿来“重述”,葛浩文、林丽君英译的神话小说《格萨尔王》旨在向全球翻译传播中国民族文化。本文基于认知识解理论,对比分析了《格萨尔王》中自然景观、俗语和藏传佛教用语三类地域文化表达在原文和译文中的异同,描述了文化表达的复杂内涵以及译者对文化多元内涵的主观理解和取舍。面对文化表达多元内涵的翻译挑战时,葛浩文、林丽君充分发挥译者主体性,积极调整识解维度,将信息内涵传递作为翻译主要目的,兼顾文化表达的情感和审美内涵。认知识解理论有助于揭示译者对文化表达主观理解过程,探索有效的跨文化翻译策略,解决文化不可译的迷思,推动中国文化走出去、走进去。The mythical novel King Gesar,retold by Alai and translated by Howard Goldblatt and Sylvia Li-chun Lin,aims to disseminate Chinese national culture globally through translation.Based on the theory of cognitive construal,this paper comparatively analyzes the similarities and differences in three types of regional cultural expressions,namely natural landscapes,colloquialisms,and Tibetan Buddhist terminologies,between the source and target language texts.The study describes the complex connotations of cultural expressions and the translators’comprehension and selection of the connotations in translation.Facing the translation challenges of cultural expressions with diverse connotations,Howard Goldblatt and Sylvia Li-chun Lin fully exert their subjectivity as translators,actively adjust the dimensions of construal,prioritize the conveyance of informational connotations,and also take into account the emotional and aesthetic connotations of cultural expressions.The theory of cognitive construal helps to reveal the process of translators’subjective understanding of cultural expressions,explore effective cross-cultural translation strategies,solve the myth of cultural untranslatability,and enhance the“going out”effects of Chinese culture.
