刘殿爵《论语》英译的社会翻译学研究

摘　　要：刘殿爵《论语》英译本是早期为数不多的由中国译者所译的译本。此前的《论语》英译多由西方译者主导,刘殿爵译本处于《论语》英译场域随世界经济政治场域发生变化的关键时期。刘殿爵翻译的时机恰巧融入这一场域,译者的资本和惯习也发挥了作用。场域、资本、惯习的联合,促成了译本的成功。且译者自身所拥有的丰厚的文化资本、社会资本和象征资本,使其不仅能更好地解读文本,还获取了出版商的信任,从而能够充分利用原文资本和出版商资本,为译本的成功提供了有力的保障。不同于西方译者总是以西方文化为中心的翻译,刘殿爵对于源语文化和内容的忠实以及关注读者接受的惯习,既推动了《论语》英译场域的变化,又顺利积累了象征资本,使该译本在众多译本中脱颖而出。The English translation of D.C.Lau′s The Analects is one of the few early translations by Chinese translators.Previously,the English translation of The Analects was mostly dominated by Western translators,and D.C.Lau′s translation was at a critical period when the field of English translation of The Analects was changing along with the world economic and political field.The timing of Lau′s translation coincided with his integration into this field,and his capital and habitus also played a role.The combination of field,capital and habitus contributed to the success of his translation.The translator′s abundant cultural,social and symbolic capital enables him to not only better interpret the text but also gain the trust of the publisher,so as to fully utilize the capital of the original text and the capital of the publisher,providing strong guarantees for the success of the translation.Unlike Western translators who always focus on Western culture in their translations,D.C.Lau′s loyalty to the culture and content of the source language,as well as his habitus of paying attention to reader acceptance,have not only driven changes in the field of English translation of The Analects,but also successfully accumulated symbolic capital,making it stand out among many others.
