摘 要:猜词策略是指在英语阅读过程中根据上下文猜测词义的方法。国外的大量研究表明,我们所掌握的大部分词汇,无论是母语还是外语,不是来自课堂学习,也不是通过查字典,而是通过课外阅读猜词而获得。由此可见猜词对于词汇学习的意义。猜词策略对于英语词汇学习和阅读理解的作用举足轻重。培养学生掌握猜词策略的应用技能是当前所倡导的一种外语素质能力培养。This paper discusses categorization of Word Attack Strategies (WASs)-an effective way to develop one' s EFL vocabulary. WASs in this study refer to the strategies, or techniques, used by the L2 learner while reading to guess the meaning of an unfamiliar word in the context. Considerable evidence from research abroad shows that a substantial part of our vocabulary, L1 or L2 alike, comes neither from classroom learning, nor from dictionaries, but from word-guessing during outside-classroom reading, hence the significance of WASs in vocabulary learning. The writer exemplifies 6 major types of WASs, classified on the basis of his study of the Chinese EFL college students. WASs are crucial not only in vocabulary learning but also in reading comprehension. To develop) learners skills in WAS use is, in fact, to tap their learning potentials, as advocated in China s quality-oriented education.
